Ode to a Bumblebee

*Note: I have decided to post here the seemingly most joyous poem I may have written. Don’t be alarmed, I don’t usually delve into happiness and sunshine with my words. But between you and me, it’s ok to like it every once in a while. Ssshhh.

Your wings,
Doilies that flutter with the warm, westerly breeze.
You buzz and stop,

Buzz –
            and
Stop.

Soft petals in shades of purple, white and yellow,
Nestle your tiny head.
Small, straw legs grip your destination.

Buzzing
            and
                Stopping.

Your fuzzy, bulbous body
Carried aloft with wings of magic,
Balanced by earthly currents,
Carrying the pleasant aroma of lavender,
Sage and lilac.
You are friend of the butterfly,
Cousin to the dragonfly,
Lover of pollen and growth.

Buzz –
            and
Stop.

Your epic journeys,
Through mountains and valleys.
Fly and persist.
You earn your stripes
Through Nature’s nurturing hymn.

Buzz,
            Buzz,
                           Buzz.

Your little life is to see beyond
The colors.
To free the grounded.
Oh, your wispy song,
You, the buzzing bumblebee.

Can you see him? Seriously, his wings are so tiny and he is so fuzzy. Mt. Evans bumblebee. photo credit: me!
