A Fire Above Timberline

There is a fire above timberline –
The sound of darkness loud on the alpine,
Tendrils of smoke – ghosts in the afterglow.
Sapphire stars and shadows begin to grow,
Crying for a dream. Spirit is enshrined.

Collapsed ruins, dilapidated mines,
Clay and mica – gold and silver entwines,
Solemn dance of wolf and comet in woe,
A fire above timberline.

Raging rivers and peaceful stone align,
Barren and lonely peaks reign the army pines,
Dusky whispers from the moon long ago
Windswept, breathless – on the wings of a crow,
Leapt the dog and the Milky Way – divine,
A fire above timberline.
